Ahhh Winter. Cold, snowy, don’t ever want to leave your house Winter. It’s a wonderful time a year but lets be honest… towards January you’re starting to go a little stir crazy. You’re craving the warmth and going outside without having to put on 100 layers to avoid hypothermia. So many people in the US don’t have a passport because they don’t travel that often and that’s ok! However, finding tropical destinations in the dead of Winter that aren’t abroad isn’t that easy. Well, I have a list of beautifully warm destinations for you to defrost in that you can visit even if you don’t have a passport!

Puerto Rico– This tropical Caribbean island is the perfect getaway. Aside from beautiful beaches it also has a colorful old town, picturesque waterfalls, mountains, and El Yunque Rainforest to explore.

St. John- Part of the US Virgin Islands, this smaller island is one of my favorites. I love to rent a jeep and explore hidden coves to swim in. Oh, and make friends with all of the resident donkeys that inhabit the island.

Key West, Florida- This southernmost tip of the US is easy to get to and there is always something to do. Check out Duval for a lively crowd or rent a boat for the day to go snorkeling or fishing. Don’t forget to watch the sunsets… they’re some of the best in the world.

Sanibel Island, Florida- Right off the Southwest coast of Florida this picturesque little island feels worlds away from bustling Fort Myers. I love renting bikes and biking all around, stopping in cute little restaurants for a quick drink or biking right to the beach. Oh, and it’s also the shelling capital of the US!

St. Thomas- This is the largest of the USVI and a stopping point for many cruises. If you step away from the downtown touristy area there are beautiful areas of St. Thomas along with gorgeous beaches. Take a day trip snorkeling, you won’t be disappointed.

St. Croix- This smaller USVI is the perfect place for diving and discovering wrecks. Also, this island is home to two bio luminescent bays which is one of the most incredible things to see in person.
