Nepal to this day is still one of my favorite destinations. It’s definitely not a ‘destination’ most people would think to travel to which I understand, but this country has so much to offer. Many people travel here just to climb Everest and that’s ok… but if you were to take a week and explore you’d fall in love. You’ll fall in love with not only the beauty of this country but the culture, people, and cuisine. It’s a very safe and welcoming country and even being a solo woman traveler I never felt uneasy. If you ever make it to Nepal I highly recommend seeing these 6 places!
Kathmandu
This large, bustling capital city of Nepal is a wonderful city to explore. Its a place where Hinduism meets Buddhism in the most harmonious and beautiful way possible. Gorgeous temples and white washed prayer flag filled stupas are everywhere. It’s chaos, but there is beauty in the chaos. Read all about my experience here.
Mount Everest
Who hasn’t heard of Mount Everest? If you’re lazy like me and don’t want to climb it you have the option of flying around it. My idea of seeing Everest is sitting on a plane, sipping a cold glass of champagne, while looking at the snow capped Himalayan Mountains. Read about it here!
Pokhara
Picture this: a big beautiful lake filled with colorful boats with the Himalayan Mountains in the background. Sound like heaven? Close, but its just Pokhara. This lively town is the starting point to many treks and its filled with great little cafes and things to do (like paragliding!) Click here for a photo diary!
Bandipur
This hidden gem is a place not known very well by tourist. It’s a gorgeous little village high up in the mountains surrounded by lush landscape. I hate to say it was my ‘favorite’ place in Nepal, but it was my favorite. From the moment you arrive you can feel you’re somewhere special. It’s a small little village and the people are very sweet and excited to see tourists. Click here for my full photo diary!
Chitwan
Head down to the heart of the jungle for a safari or two. This place is the perfect place to try and spot a tiger or rhino! I rented a bike one morning after a safari and came across an elephant on its morning walk. I kept riding and came across the Tharu tribe and spent hours playing with the sweet children of the tribe and finished the day by the river with a cold beer. Its a wonderful area to explore!
Bhaktipur
This great UNESCO city is extremely close to Kathmandu and a great day trip. Its lined with beautifully intricate wood carvings and temples. Its bustling Durbar Square is an amazing place to walk around and buy souvenirs. I may or may not have brought back an actual hand carved side table…
Pokhara is an dream destination for me. I wish to be there.
Thank you so much for your amazing review and beautiful photos.
